Message from Ps Carl Sepssy:
As a write to you I heard the news that Billy Graham went to be with the Lord (22nd February). Billy was 99 years old. We rejoice with the Lord and the heavenly host that such a dear saint has been promoted to glory! “Well done thy good and faithful servant! Enter into the joy of the Lord!” We pay tribute to a man of God, a preacher to multitudes, a chaplain to presidents and one who like Jesus was a man of integrity! My mum and sister attended a Billy Graham Crusade in the early 1980’s in the west of England, and like many in our church have been impacted by his ministry.
Billy commenced his global ministry in London in 1954. Originating from North Carolina Billy got saved at the age of 16 after hearing a travelling evangelist. Billy was ordained as a minister at the age of 21 in 1939. Billy preached all over the world from South Africa to North Korea: 417 crusades between 1949 and 2005. Billy preached to 150 000 people in his 1959 crusade at the MCG in Melbourne – during that visit to Australia it was noted that 2% of the Australian population made a decision for Christ.
My elder, Brian Sargent, a policeman from my previous Church in England, was part of Billy’s security detail in some English and Dutch Crusades in 1985/6. Brian passed away from Leukaemia and I conducted his funeral with 200 policemen and women present. His family gave me a Bible that Billy Graham had given Brian, which he signed in 1986 after the family heard that Rhiannon and I were leaving the church to come to Australia.
In the Bible Billy wrote, Philemon 1:6 “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”
